The Day!

The day of the wedding was a cloudy, gloomy day with a strong chance of rain.  Being an outdoor wedding this made me a bit weary but I figured there was really no point in worrying too much about it until the rain came...or didn't.  I decided I also didn't want to have to answer any more questions - what about this, where do you want this, etc etc. so I told my maid-of-honor that he one job was to answer all ridiculous questions.  I didn't care how she answered them, I trusted her judgement - she's my maid-of-honor for a reason!

Prep went really well.  My step-mom and her friend set up a great reception area while I hung out with the girls to get ready.  Hair, make-up, dress - everything was so well done, with little worry from me.

As crunch time was approaching everyone became really worried about the rain that was definitely coming.  Do we chance it?  Do we wait until THE time to decide?  Do we move the reception into the too small, too hot house?  With little concern or worry in my being I said that I really didn't care as long as I got to marry Jeremy today!  Who has that much calm and peace about rain during an outdoor wedding?  I never thought that would be me but here I was, calmly suggesting that we throw all the original planning and venue's normal rain-plan, and have everyone take their seats under the reception tent and we just do everything in there.  It was already decorated, no chairs needed to be moved.  Perfect plan...and so it was.  I think I may have been the first bride to suggest the not-so-brilliant but best option rain-plan idea for the venue.

This was the original plan...

And this is what we came up with...

It really turned out great.  Everyone had a close seat, there were fans in the tent, the sun was not beating down on us, most everyone already had a cool drink to help with the heat and humidity.  What a great plan!  Everything went well and I got to married this goofy, handsome man!  Really, I couldn't have asked for a better day.

God had a plan for this day and no amount of silly worries and questions, rain threat, or heat could disrupt his plan and my peace of mind!  Praise God for the 6 months He has given us so far and our prayer and deep desire is for many more years to come!  We have such amazing family and friends that went a long way to make not only this day a great day but have been with us for a long time and are sure to be there for our next big adventures!

The Proposal

After dating for a little over a year we were finally able to take a trip to visit Jeremy's grandma and family in the mountains of North Carolina.  One of the days we were there Jeremy planned for us to go sight-seeing and picture taking of the great fall colors.  We left for our adventure towards the Blue Ridge Parkway.  When we pulled up to the entrance we saw that it was closed and Jeremy asked for me to look for other places we could go for "scenic views" using my phone.  Because I know nothing about the layout of towns in the mountains I first started bringing up places that were hours away from where we were.  Here is where he started getting a bit frustrated - I was thinking he was getting upset with little old incompetent me.  Jeremy ended up just driving to a nearby town that he remembered having great views and we were back on track.  We ended up at one of the entrances to the Smoky Mountain National Park and drove around for a while.  We got to a hiking trail and decided to take a walk down to the creek.  There I found this really pretty area with a walking bridge over the river and wanted my picture taken.

I thought we were ready to go after that but Jeremy turned me around and got down on one knee.  That was all I needed to burst into tears.  On that note he looked concerned and asked "Are you ok?  Is this ok?"  I was somehow able to convey to him to continue with his plan and he asked me to marry him.  There was a YES! in there somewhere between the tears of joy.

So no frustration with me over not being able to find anywhere just anxiousness on his part for his plot being foiled.  But I think this plan worked out pretty well too!

How It All Started

My goal over the next few weeks is to introduce you to our story to catch you up.  Here is the story of how it all started...

One day a 7-year-old girl in the after-school program at Jeremy's rec center out of the blue asked him if he had a girlfriend.  He was confused at the question and was concerned that maybe she had a crush on him.  After some questioning back and forth Jeremy figured out that she was wanting to set him up with a friend of her mom's.  He told her that he did not have a girlfriend and so little Catherine was on to phase #2.

Catherine told her mom that Mr. Jeremy did not have a girlfriend so mom (Oxi - media specialist at my school) approached me the next day at school declaring that she had found the man for me and showed me a picture of Catherine's find - Mr. Jeremy.  My thoughts..."yeah, right, whatever!  Give him my information because I am SURE you have found the man for me."  (I really hope you could read those thoughts in my voice and sarcastic tones!)

How many times has someone approached me to say that they know this guy that I should meet because he is great and cute and blah blah blah and then we never speak, we never meet, nothing ever happens?

Well...Oxi gave him my phone number and we texted a few times and then talked on the phone and then he asked me out.

to be continued...
